Title: Goodness Snakes Alive
Post by: R AJ on April 16, 2011, 05:23:48 AM
We had a fellow near Monroeville,Alabama who was watching some gobblers in front of him. When he put his hand in the leaves to rustle them a copperhead bit him with one fang on the finger. Last report he will be OK.

About the same time a week or so ago another hunter near this area was sitting down and when he made a motion to reach for a call a rattlesnake raised its head . The guy was able to get his shotgun and end that story before anything else happened.

Look before you leap but make darn sure you look twice before sitting on the ground.

It's that time of year guys, also be very careful if nature calls and you have to drop your drawers in the woods. ;)
Be safe and hunt smart!

Chris.

Good advice right there!!  If you are hunting with me and need to go and don't look before you drop them and get yourself bit.  I am NOT helping to get the poison out!  On a side note, if you do die, can I have your gun?  I'll take good care of it! :TooFunny: :TooFunny: :TooFunny:

I sat on one last sunday morning before church.   He moved after about 15 min.   Scared me to death,  ,   It was a non-posioness black-runner,  but still nearly made me kill myself.   I would have love to seen a viedo of my dismount.

I always tested my son when we started going to the woods together.."if you see a snake and you have 5 shells in your huntbanger (that's what he called a gun when he was 3), how many times do you shoot the snake?"
Answer: 5 times.
Snakes are evil creatures. What other creature in the animal kingdom can you put your pickup tire on, turn it back and forth, and it still slither away?

Years ago when I hunted the mountains I took a break and straddled a log to rest and listen. When I got up some 20 minutes later I noticed my feet had been on either side of a coiled up rattler.
Had week knees the entire walk out which was well over a mile.
His rattles still hang on my beard board.

Yet another reason I prefer to hunt up north...

I live in NYS and have timber rattlers in the woods where I hunt. Actually, I'm more worried about the big black bears. I had too many close call run-ins with them badboys..
