Title: Mouth call tape size
Post by: larry9988 on September 29, 2017, 11:59:49 PM
When the mouth call tape is properly sized, should it overlap your teeth on the sides at all or should the tape fit entirely inside of your teeth? I seem to have a narrow pallet and the tape on most calls except maybe some of the smaller taped calls from Hooks overlaps my teeth in the front on either side of the opening. Which fit is best or does it matter? I have been around hunting a long time but have just gotten serious about getting better on a mouth call. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Larry

The tape forms the seal in your mouth. You want it to be comfortable and not too large or too small. It needs to hold the call in place, but not crowd your teeth on either side. Too wide and it will not seal properly which allows air to go around it instead of just across the reeds.

When trimming, take very small amounts off equally on both sides until it "feels right". You may need to trim the back of the tape also.
