Had tornado warnings this morning so I couldn't go. We've only got our suburban up here and I hate to leave my wife without a car. I think I'm gonna head out in a few and just sit in the swamp and call every 10-15 min. Maybe I'll get lucky. The wind is blowing pretty hard but who cares. lol Tomorrow morning looks good as far as the weather goes. I sure hope they gobble.

Good Luck in the Morning Dan, I gonna head out somewhere tomorrow morning. With all the rain we got last night, may make some of my places hard to manuever around. Gotta cross some creeks in a couple of places but may have to take the LONG way in.
Man, it almost happened this afternoon. The wind was really blowing so I headed straight to the swamp instead of the field. I got all setup and started blind calling. About every thirty min or so I would do some lost calling (lot's of yelping) like a bird that was lonely and looking for company. I did this from about 3:30 til my last sequence at 7:00. I had the thermacell running the whole time and when I reached to turn it off to get ready to leave you know it- putt!!!! There was a gobbler standing 10 yds behind me. No telling how long he had been standing there looking for that lonely hen. A decoy would have helped in this case. He wasn't too spooked but started walking away with purpose. I thought I was going to kill him anyway when he went behind a huge oak at about 20 yds. I quickly swung my gun and cocked it. All I needed was for him to step out on either side of the tree. Wouldn't you know it he walked in line with that tree until about 45 yds or so. I had one opportunity at about that distance but I decided not to take the shot. I just wasn't comfortable with the situation. Sooner or later things will work out.
Didn't hear a peep this morning. I have to take my wife to Macon tomorrow morning to get a tooth pulled so I won't get to hunt a morning again until tue. We're heading back to Mia. on Fri. so 3 more mornings up here. The Fat Lady is starting to warm up!! lol I'm going again this afternoon so maybe I'll get lucky. I'm starting to sound like a broken record.
same thing happened to me this morning dan i reconnected with a tom but he never came in and there not gobbling here either
Dang birds here have quit makeing any kind of noise, good luck Dan.

You gotta sweet talkem. Leave the locators at home and start walking and doing soft yelps. Been workin for me. :z-guntootsmiley:
Called in another one this morning for a buddy but he wasn't able to shoot. It came in on my side. I didn't even have my gun up. Hate to tag out this early. :bike2:
Dustin I don't use locator calls,,at all,, and the walking along doing the soft yelp thing just makes the hens turn and leave takeing the toms with them.
Well they ain't but two things left to do. Wait another week or two and let most of the hens go to nest or hunt them later in the morning after the hens leave to lay another egg. Thats just turkey hunting at its best and at its worst.
Been a really nutty season this year. Today I was 2 different bachelor groups out in fields feeding. One group was 4 mature Toms and one was 3 mature Toms and 4 Jakes. Now that's just plain nuts. I swear i expect to start seeing poults any day.
Shawn. The season ended in Fla. April 6 for the Southern Zone where I hunt. and it ended this past wk. end for the Northern Zone. (I think). I've been hunting in Ga. since Mar. 26th.
My birds have all of the sudden got quit. I heard one bird on our place Saturday Morning, and one bird acroos the river today. I hit it hard today, and din't ahve any luck. I bumped one tom while doing a little running and gunnning, then on my way out I had a tom run across the road from me. It's been a long hot day. I tried to hang in there until fly up, bhut I am beat. Back after them tomorrow.
Dan, will you get to get back up here before the season closes May 15?
Shane, I don't think I'll be back in Sandersville after we make our trip to N. Georgia and Ky. next wk. but you never know. I've got one buddy in Mia. that wants to go bad and I just might make a trip back up with him.
Another quiet morning!! :angry9: I think my misery might be over tomorrow. We're planning on leaving Th. morning.

When you headed up to Kentucky? Which way are you going, through Knoxville or Nashville.
I had another slow day today as well. We've got some raining coming in tomorrow. I'm going to take my late father's ground blind and go sit in a filed the birds seem to frequent when it rains. I'm not much of blind user type guy, but I think it will be the ticket with all tha rain coming in.
Dan if you guys come through Atlanta on your way to Kentucky give me a shout. Maybe we could meet for LUnch/Dinner or something. Good Luck in the morning. I hope you can pull out alast minute bird. You sure deserve it! :anim_25:
