Title: Copper Cleaning Trick
Post by: jshively on April 14, 2011, 03:46:22 PM
Just curious if anyone else has tried this.  The last two days have been really wet here and my copper pot was looking a bit dull.  I added about 1/2 a teaspoon of ketchup and rubbed it all over.  Washed it off and it is shiny like the day I got it.  Just dried it, conditioned it and now it is pretty again.

I once worked for a guy to cheap to buy brasso - I guess it is the acid in ketchup that does the trick.

Its true, Ketchup causes a chemical reaction with copper and makes it shine.  I used to use it when I managed a restaurant to clean the pipes on equipment.

Its the salt and vinegar.  I have tried it from a home remedy type book for tarnished metals.
