I've been hunting birds for awhile now just starting to collect pot calls/strikers and having fun with that. This site has cost me some change. I have been successful with store bought production calls but want to expand on my wife's garage sale when I depart with some more calls. Never used box calls much other then using to locate birds from a distance. I've been using store bought "Lynch" world champion for many years with good success. Looking to purchase a box call from a call maker and not sure who or what wood combo. Perhaps Lonnie Mabry....any suggestions ?
I'll suggest Jeff White or Albert Paul.
Jeff can be found on here and has many sound files posted
Give SS a try they're top notch. Hallorans boxes are also good.
Another vote for SS! Al and Josh can hook you up

Been a lot of buzz about Van Cise boxes lately, the SS box calls are always the very top of almost any list but there's a massively long list we could get into mabry doesn't ship but you could post a WTB thread on here
Thank you all.....
I've heard alot of good about Ralph Snodgrass. I wouldn't be afraid to try one of his calls. Marlin Watkins calls are tried and true also!
My best advice is come to Unicoi in Jan. Have fun, visit callmakers and play calls until your fingers hurt.
I guarentee If you get a fiddle box from marlin watkins you will be wowed. If you want a turpin style contact richard hudson. I own more box calls than the law should allow and those 2 are the cats meow.
SxS!
My --go to box when looking for Fall gobblers is my TURPIN BOX. Made of a teak body and a beech handle and signed by Steve Turpin. It cost me 150 dollars some years back and gobbles really well. I don't use rubber bands for this.I like to use this box for old hen yelps in the Spring as well.
Dan Harris from Texarkana Texas makes some fine calls, and they are reasonably priced. He'll take any call back if you don't like it. But, chances are you'll love it.
