Was wondering if anybody had any experience with a company I am considering getting a lease from. They are a timber company out of Alabama called amp hunting land. Was just wondering how reputable they are. I saw the ad on Craigslist and sometimes I'm wary of that stuff because of scammers.
I would call the fish and game officer in that area, and see if he has any feed back on this timber co....the thing about timber co land is people think they can hunt it all the time or ride all over it...
I agree with the above. And they can cut whenever they want and may or may not tell you. You can lose stands and food plots if you are deer hunting. They can also sell the lease to any other timber company whenever they choose. It's like having a mortgage and your just the squirrel that shares nuts from the yard. I would investigate it for sure.
I have been a timber lease club in Ms. Now for 7 years, they had started some cutting my first year in the club, I stopped the cutter one day and ask what and how much they were cutting, he said he had 7 years to get it all, 5500 acres, this is the seventh year and my last to pay for some great turkey woods that are gone!
Almost all of my "private" land is leased from timber companies. The last two years I have seen some of my favorite areas completely clear cut. I have to be very mobile and stay on top of things but good hunting can still be had as long as they don't strip it all. Of course a lot of land is a plus in this situation. Some areas just aren't profitable to get timber out of being so far away from roads so with some work I have stayed in the turkeys. Turkeys love a fresh clearcut in the spring when vegetation is just coming up and there is good nesting cover.

+1 Get as much education on what they can do (probably a long list) and what they cannot do (probably a short list). Sometimes hard to call one up with a fellerbuncher right next to you lying the roost trees down. :begging:
Around here, the big timber companies have standard lease forms and contracts. You pay, you get to hunt. You can't do anything to mess with their trees and they can come in and cut, thin or work whenever they want to. They make no bones about the fact they are a timber company first and everything else in secondary.
