Title: Florida Turkey
Post by: mtns2hunt on June 13, 2017, 06:04:05 PM
Anyone hunting Florida next year? I just booked with SwampGobbler. Had several good references. After Florida I guess its off to ol Mexico for the Goulds. So far I have had great hunts in New Mexico with Bridger (Tristate outfitters) and Paririe Thunderoutfitters Kansas. Would recommend either!

I  am always curious how others are doing on their Slam or two or three.

I'll be down there hunting for myself for opening weekend in the southern zone and will be guiding opening week of the central zone.

I've never heard a bad thing about the Swamp Gobbler guys and suspect you'll have a great hunt.  Enjoy your hunt and the  time spent in Florida.  Don't forget your thermacell and snake boots.  If you're actually hunting in the swamps you'll see plenty of cottonmouths.

You'll have a great time with Swamp Gobbler-first hand experience as my daughter got her Osceola with them a couple years ago and I took mine with them this last year.

Daughter completed her Royal and I completed my Single Season Grand this year wrapping them both up in Missouri with Honey Creek Outfitters which I also highly recommend.

If you haven't booked your Gould's hunt yet I'd look at Colburn and Scott Outfitters.

Good luck!

I'll be down there for the south zone opener also....Orange groves, swamp, and pastures. Then off to South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Washington State. It can't get here fast enough!

I appreciate the feedback and am happy to hear of others working on or completing their slam. I tried to find anything negative on Swampgobblers but could not which is good. Sounds like their operation is sound. I have been lucky to have found two other great outfitters for my Merriam and Rio in NM and Kansas. I have had my share of bad outfitters and am glad to leave them behind. All were big game outfitters in Montana and Canada.

I certainly will remember the thermacell and I am no stranger to the cotton mouth having fished in Alabama and Mississippi for a couple years. Skeeters and black flies were no fun in Canada either. Best to everyone with their Florida bird. I can't wait.

Do you have a contact name on tristate outfitters. I assume they have a web page? I may try New Mexico next year.

You'll have a great time at swamp gobbler. I've been down there with them the last 5 years and will be going back again this spring.
