Title: Ground lounger pop up blind?
Post by: TRG3 on June 01, 2017, 01:40:08 AM
I've got a couple of pop-up blinds that I set up for deer hunting that require a standard height seat/chair if one is to have any definition of comfortable over several hours of sitting. Those blinds stay up in one spot for the entire bow/gun season, some 3 months. Carrying the larger deer pop-up and suitable seating along with decoys, shotgun, etc. is not practical during turkey season because I generally don't hunt the same spot two days in a row and typically walk in a quarter to half-mile. During turkey season, in addition to my decoys and shotgun, I carry a ground lounger that is very comfortable but not suitable for the high sides of my deer hunting pop-ups. Does anyone make a pop-up to be used specifically with the ground lounger utilizing much lower windows all around? I skipped a couple of days this past season when it rained all day that I'd like to have hunted but just didn't want to sit out in the precipitation all day knowing that the odds of getting a bird were low but the changes of getting soaked were 100%. Thanks for your replies.

Ameristep used to make one, but as with almost all Ameristep products, they were discontinued.  Your best bet would be one of those with the corner windows that reach all the way down to the ground.

I have and use one called Tom Taker 2.
It's just right for the lounger chair ,  but I don't know if they still make it.

I'm not sure if you hunt private ground while turkey hunting, but if you do you could put up a blind in a good spot and just leave it up  for your season like you do for deerhunting for the just in case rainy or nasty days. I've done this for the bad days and for when my Boy goes with success.

I think that this is the one that I used to have.  It was great for long sits and really easy to carry and set up.  It was a low folding chair that when you sat down you reached behind and grabbed the blind and pulled it over.  It had a roof and windows to shoot out of.  It was not all that durable however and got trashed after about 2 seasons.

Ameristep does make a small light weight blind with built in chair. I carry it Turkey hunting and frequently leave it up for weeks.

It's a whole lot easier to carry a 4' section of leafy cut camo material and use tree limbs to hang in front of you.

Thank you for your replies. After checking out your suggestions concerning ground lounger pop ups with low sides, I find that none are no longer available; therefore, I'm considering using one of those attach-to-the-tree umbrellas and just scoot up under it while wearing rain gear. While not ideal, it seems like it would at least offer some protection from the elements. Again, thanks for your replies.

I've used one of those attach-to-the-tree umbrellas with some success.  When using as a blind, just jam the screw-in part into the ground as a stake to hold it in place.  If it's windy, I usually find a big stick to drape over it to add stability.  Of course, it is handy to carry on a rainy day, too.  I have the larger of the two sizes.  Hard to beat the portability compared to a pop-up blind.

There is an outlett store near home that has the discontinued Tom Taker blinds - they come with the lounger chair included.  I'm not sure if they still have any - it is one of those deals where they have what they have, and when they are gone, they are gone.  I could check if anyone is seriously in need of one or interested - you would have to pay shipping.  I used one in Iowa this past spring and liked it - perfect for hunting alone in the rain.
