I want a short box that is not high pitched real mellow. I also don't want it real raspy. What kind of would combo would be best for this sound?
Sassafras over red cedar or walnut and butternut.
Does anyone happen to have a soundfile
I have a cedar box made by the late Doug Camp that fits that Bill perfectly.
Walnut/butternut....great box call wood
I think the maker, the design, and how it's tuned makes more of a difference but particular woods will give you what you describe. The ones mentioned above are all good. Spanish cedar is also a great wood for the box portion. It's not a true cedar but in the mahogany family.
I agree. Talk to the maker, he should be able to guide you to what your looking for. Good luck!
All cedar.
Bob Harwell walnut/butternut,,nails a medium hen,,call him up and have him play one,,your sold!
