I was getting ready for church this morning when my son started hollering for me. There was a coyote chasing a flock of turkeys around the field behind the house. I was surprised that they ran from him but never took flight. He finally gave up and left before I could get a bead on him.
One hen lower than the rest of the flock just kept about her business as if nothing was happening.
I've called in Coyotes and wild dogs numerous times while turkey hunting. I would think they'd be pretty hard on nesting hens especially.
I have called in several over the years that responded to Turkey calls. Heard lots for stories of coyotes bum rushing or grabbing turkey decoys and running off with them. I always figured that they must catch a few or they wouldn't even try. I do a lot of coyote hunting fall and winter maybe I should start using turkey decoy and turkey vocalization.
