When I was cleaning this bird, I noticed this abscess around the breastbone. It didn't smell, but looks nasty. Meat looked normal. Bird was healthy and gobbling and strutting right until he died of heavy metal poisoning. Only other oddity he had beard rot.
What do you think, should I eat it?(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170527/bd5c3367e5a03bb3cbc7b386edb35728.jpg)

That looks pretty nasty think I would toss the meat and keep the spurs/fan/beard
I couldn't chew on anything coming off of that one. I'm dang near throwing up looking at it....
Throw a little salt and pepper on it and all should be good...I doubt I would try it tho. Lol
Nope. May not be a thing wrong with it , but if your not starving , I wouldnt chance it.
agree, don't think i would eat it either..i couldn't chew on it knowing it was nasty...
I wouldn't

Nnnnooooooooooooo......
You will never see a bigger abscess in a bird. That bird certainly had bacteremia, i.e. bacteria in the blood stream, and that means ALL flesh from that turkey would be extremely dangerous to eat.
I would not chance that.
Not a chance!
That will make you lego your eggo. Don't do it.
The rest of us us need a test dummy. You were chosen at random. Bon appetti.
I wouldn't eat it.
Hellll nooo
Brent, that doesn't look too bad... :-X
I know how much you like turkey, what could go wrong?!
LOL
You could probably safely eat the other breast. Bacteria throughout the bloodstream would be a dead bird before you could have shot it, but there could be bacterial endotoxins throughout the blood. That big of an abscess would condemn the whole bird at a slaughter house, so that is probably your best answer. Toss it. Buy a turkey and cook it in honor of the one you killed!
I would not eat it. Not worth it. I shot a bird a few years back that had half the breast gangrene like. Sadly I pitched that bird and kept the beard and spurs. No idea what had happened to him.
Anyone know if a DEC can re issue a tag due to unfit consumption ? In a few cases I've heard of them doing it for deer here in NYS.
WOOF! I'd approach that with the same care I would a $5 truckstop hooker.
Don't do it.
heck to the naw ...
