Our own firedup makes some might pretty turkey calls. I was the lucky recipient gift of another one on our trip this spring.
I used it to call three birds to the gun in the first five days I had it. It's crystal and sounds as good as it looks. And this from a guy much more known for his box calls... Sadly, I can't remember what the wood was called. It grows with bits of bark on the interior of the tree leaving this look. Hopefully someone can school me on that again. It's a beauty!
Thanks LT!

Fine looking call from a fine gentleman. I have one of his box calls and it's pretty sweet. My Mom has one as well and would probably fight someone over it!

That's nice... real nice!!
And now I remember, it's blister maple.
Tail Feathers, LT is very good friend of mine and a heck of a modest, but talented callmaker! and I ran this call earlier this spring before it landed in your hands, let me tell you ya got a good one! The wood is called In-grown Bark Maple, or some folks call it Thumbnail Maple. In either case the wood is Sugar Maple and it came from me. It was cut in Attica NY in 2013. In this rare case the wood is actually curly (figured) as well.

And now you know....the rest of the story! I am glad the call worked so well for you and I hope the string of success continues! I don't know about the rarity of the wood but in all the years I have been making calls and woodworking I have seen very little of it compared to curly or birdseye maple. It was a pleasure to build it for you. Enjoy my turkin' brother! LT
