Well it's been a frustrating year up until this morning. First was a trip to Texas for Rios who had no interest in coming to the call. The next weekend was back to Iowa for 30 mph winds and rain. Again no luck. Finally beautiful weather here this weekend, and it all came together perfectly. 3 or 4 gobbling in the roost. One flew down on the side of the river I was on, strutted his way into range.
But most importantly to me he was shot on family land, where I've been trying to shoot one for years. This has been one of my favorite hunts.

Congrats! I too was out in Iowa today. I've been hunting a bird I call loose lips. He gobbled 51 times in 20 minutes this morning on the roost. I quit counting after that as he just kept hammering.
I filled both tags very quickly again this year. It did seem the birds where I hunted were very quiet. First bird I didn't have a clue he was coming until he let out with four fast gobbles at 80 yards, then came in silent until I shot him. Second bird(s) gobbled once behind and to my left. Gobbled again behind and to my right. They were silent then until I saw them to my front right. They had circled me. My bird came in fast while the other stayed back. I was ready to shoot when the other bird let out with a danger putt. I let out with a boom. Even when the woods are quiet, the turkeys are still there.

I'm a very proud dad because my oldest son graduated a couple days ago.And the next morning he went out on our 8 acre patch of ground and called in and killed a gobbler at 17 yds at 6:00 a.m. My wife heard the shot so she woke up my youngest and he went out to help celebrate and take pictures.
