Title: bought another "investment" today...
Post by: chbarnha on May 07, 2017, 07:42:59 PM
I have always been a fan of the Browning Auto 5, not the new "imitation", but the original. I grew up shooting them as my dad had plenty of them. My high school graduation present was a nib magnum stalker. well I bought another one a few years ago but always wanted another stalker. I came across a light 12 stalker in the store for $500 and I bit. Walked out the door with it for a little over $500 and it came with a truglo ssx choke. This gun looks like new with a 28" invector plus barrel. Now, what loads would you recommend trying that aren't hevishot? Is it even worth trying to kill a turkey with this gun or should I just keep shooting the 3" gun. Either way, its an "investment"...  at least that's what I keep telling the girl friend.

 :morning:
I love the hump backs too, and I killed my first gobbler with a pristine 1952 vintage 2.75" with a 28" full choke barrel. Back then we didn't have the loads like there are now so I'm sure that you'll be able to find something that's more than adequate today. I would buy some Long Beards in 6's, or if you can find them, the Roosters also by Winchester. Either way, see what she likes and hunt that great gun!  :camohat:

My 3.5 inch gold is on top, the three inch magnum stalker is in the middle and the new addition is on the bottom. My collection of some of the finest guns ever made is growing?

I know stardot is a big time choke in a Mossberg 835, but how is it in a Browning invector plus? I picked up a Stardot and two Roy Rhodes Ballistic Specialties Chokes nib for under 40$ total. Any input on these two chokes or the loads to try in them?
