Title: In search of these 2 3/4'' shells
Post by: barry on May 07, 2017, 01:37:53 PM
Hey guys,
I still have the first shotgun that I bought and want to take it to the turkey woods again just for old time's sake. The gun is chambered for 2 3/4'' shells which finding turkey loads for is way harder than I thought.
If any of you know where I can find either of these Winchester shells in # 6's please let me know.
Better yet if you have some laying around and don't need them I will gladly compensate you for them.

Thanks,
Barry

You should be able to find the double Xs from several online retailers.  Did you try Midway, Macks Prairie Wing, Rogers, etc?

barry...During the 2016 spring season, I took the Winchester Model 12 shotgun that my grandfather used during his hunting years back in the 1930s. Like your shotgun, it has a 2 3/4" chamber. I took a nice gobbler on the first day of that season using heavy load #6 shot, a load that would be used for pheasants or ducks. At 20 yards, it did a number on the gobbler's noggin!!

Brownells has the Super X version, but Walmart probably does, too.

Winchester's site isn't showing the 1 5/8oz load anymore.

That stopped manufacturing the Winchester Xtended Range shells years ago. They were my favorite shotshells for birds.

I have most of a box (10) of 2-3/4" XX in 4's if you're interested. The rest of the box is pre flight control Federal 5's in 2-3/4".

When I first started turkey hunting I used the same shells I pheasant hunt with.  2 3/4 inch #5 1500fps 1 3/8 oz copper coated lead.  They drop birds stone dead.  They make a 2 3/4 #6 1.5 oz.  Here is a link.
