Finally put an end to a very enjoyable season about 7:45 this morning. Had 2 birds gobbling about 250 to 300 yards out off the end of the ridge, across a small drainage on the other hillside. I called and moved up 3x and at third set up on the side of the ridge tip, I called in 2 separate hens and had good conversation with my glass call and Schaffer maple slate. He had gotten quiet, I quit calling and I was thinking, where'd he go........when he thunder gobbled out in front of me and just out of view below. I put the bead on the racket and he walked through, nervous and slick about 35 to 40 yards in front of me, crossing a finger. I putted to stop him and black Betty laid him low w Longbeard 6's. 10" beard, 1" spurs and around 21 lbs.
