Title: Fast fire 3 mount protector
Post by: drywallerdave on May 06, 2017, 12:55:38 AM
Do you really need this to protect your fastfire 3. I mounted mine this spring without one and don't seem to really see a need for it.  But just wandering your guys opinion on this. THANKYOU

I'd say it probably isn't necessary for most folks.  I, on the other hand, am rough on things even when I'm being careful.  I even magically bent up my vent rib before.  Therefore, I invested in the protector mount.

I lightly dropped my BPS a few years ago, with the protector, and the FF2 basically exploded...hit the magic spot I guess...

Burris replaced it, which was great...

I still use the protector + a rubber cover with my FF3....

I'm guessing that the protector helps somewhat...mine has plenty of dings now...any of which could have resulted in damage to the sight...

Ouch!  Yeah, I guess the protector mount really just protects it from side impacts.  Something sharp coming in from the top is going to do some damage.  I leave the sunshade on also, but that probably won't offer much more protection against freak accidents like the one you had.

I think its good insurance against freak accidents.  I was walking down a longing road a couple years ago and foot slipped back as I was stepping across some mud and kicked a stick up between my feet. I went down, my gun swung off my shoulder and bounced of a rock.  The guard was bent but it didn't hurt the site.
