Title: Mossberg 835
Post by: Missouri Longbeard on April 30, 2017, 05:21:36 PM
I have a Mossberg 835 Accu-Mag with a 20 inch barrel. My question is what you all think is the right choke tube and load for this shotgun is? Thank you for your time.
God Bless,
Mark

First figure out what shell you want to shoot and develop your choke and gun from that...it's like shell first and then choke ....with these new guns

What he said. And, if you're into chasing numbers in a 10" circle, you better plan to slap a scope or red dot on it. With the right choke, that overbored barrel can throw an awfully tight pattern. Tighter than the crappy factory sights are up to...  Easy to miss with them.

675/676 choke restriction and start with Longbeard XR 6's.  I've had mine for several years and that's about as good as it gets for me, going through 4 chokes and lots of lead ammo.  I have not tried tighter.   Also polish your bore, it makes a little gain.  Good luck with it!

I would first "deep clean" the bore of your 835 https://allaboutshooting.com/blogs/blog/98772615-deep-cleaning-a-shotgun-barrel That process can help more than you might imagine. Then I'd go with this recommendation:

QuoteFederal heavyweight 7s through a truglo ssx

Thanks,

Thank you for your responses. I should have stated the question differently. What I wanted to know what chokes and loads other hunters were using in their mossberg 835.Thank you for your time.

If you go through the old posts in the Mossberg pattern section of this board that is a great resource when trying to narrow down what you want to try. My 835 ended up liking a Star Dot .676 w 3" Longbeard XR # 6 . Just remember all guns are different and polishing your bore is a good idea. Good Luck with your 835.

Original star dot choke and hevi shot #6's. 3.5 inch. It's not gonna set records but a great hunting pattern.
