Title: Colorado
Post by: hunter22 on April 26, 2017, 10:19:02 PM
Anyone hunting Colorado this spring? I am thinking about going the first week of May. I did this hunt in 2015 and harvested a limited tag Rio and an over the counter Merriam.

Heading out to Bonny with a friend next weekend, then 2 weeks later with my son when he's done with school.  Got the gun dialed in and I'm raring to go.

I just hit my six months as a resident last week and bought a tag. I'm hoping to get out soon.

I'm heading to CO in a week.. last trip of the year. Super stoked. Seems like I haven't turkey hunted in forever ... although it's only been a few weeks.   :fud:

Cramerhunts and FL Boss - you guys are hunting in the same place.  Don't shoot all the birds if ya can help it - I'm gonna try to get down there before we close on the 21st.

How'd you guys get lucky enough to draw that many tags?  Congrats.

Looks like my wife and I will be going to the San Isabel National Forest in SE Colorado next week. Some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen. I hunted there in 2015 and when I pulled the trigger on my Merriam's there were a herd of bull elk around me. Definitely a first for me.

Good luck Hunter22.  I wish I could make it, but not a chance.   I shouldn't complain.....im on the side of a steep Western MT mountain right now listening for one of these crazy mountain birds I've been chasing for the last two hours to gobble again.   Looking more like I'll be after them again in the morning.

That far north you have plenty of daylight left.  Be patient young skywalker.

My labored breathing doesnt sound like "young" anything, and this is low elevation compared to CO.

I helped my friend get one yesterday.  The birds in the mountains are still in good size groups.  I think the next couple of weeks will be spectacular as the hens start nesting and the males start splitting up and travel up with the snow line.  I wish Colorado had two tags!  First week of May is the best in my opinion...plus less people out chasing turkeys.  Good luck!
