Well we finally had a good morning this morning here with no rain and good pressure. Time to try and go get after it before work.
Last year on the 4th day of the season I was able to take my good buddy Josh and call in his first bird ever, and what an incredible hunt that was, some of the most beautiful footage I've ever seen! So this year on 4th day we are gonna go back to same farm and try and repeat!
We went out there last Friday to listen and heard 5-6 birds gobbling good and several that were very close. Actually had one pitch out about 100 yards up the road from us and start strutting. Good sign!!!
So the plan today was to go in early with no lights and go around this big bowl low to the head of it where we figured they would be rooste close by. Well at 5:55 one cut it loose about 70 yards to our right, we made the right call! Yes!!!
So we just sit down there and get prepared. As the woods came alive turkeys started tearing the woods down all around us. We were surrounded by 6 hard gobbling longbeards and several hens, we are in the money seat!
I proceed to have a heated discussion with this hen in front of us, and the gobblers just can't take it, they are breaking their necks gobbling at us!! Well they fly down, we watch them pitch out of the tree down into the hollow below us and they shut up. But I have a bird behind us answering everything and coming!!! So we switch around the tree and get setup for him coming in. He closed the distance fast and was right below us gobbling hard!!! A few seconds later I catch him strutting up the hill right at us then I loose sight. Next thing I know he's on the flat in front of us putting leaving, he had popped up and my tripod and camera was blocking me. I quickly swung the camera and told Josh to shoot, bird down! The 4th day streak continues with a love sick 2 year old that gobbled his head off! Bird down at 6:48, can't ask for much more than that on a quick before work hunt!!!
God continues to pour it out on me this spring!!! This makes longbeard# 13 that I have called into gun range this year and #3 that we have got to tote out with us. Things are just now getting really good so much more to come Lord willing!

Excellent!
Congrats. This is gonna be a great season for WV I do believe

Thanks guys!!! Already has been a great season for me here, but the best is yet to come. A lot of. It's this year and a lot of hens still with gobblers. Seen 2 gobblers breed hens last two times out so they should start nesting soon.
And thanks btw on the beard. I was gonna cut it down for season but decided to leave it long in case I needed to challenge one for dominance! Lol
