Title: Question
Post by: Happy on April 04, 2017, 08:00:47 PM
Seeing all these decoy threads has gotten me to thinking so here is a question. Compared to the El cheapo walmart decoys, what have the more expensive/realistic decoys been more effective at attracting?
A: Hunters
B: Turkeys

Hunters and their wallets.

I have DSDs, killed plenty over those stupid looking foam decoys.  Turkeys are not particularly bright.

I have a whole thread on DSD's and even though I have killed birds over the other decoys, nothing in comparison to the interaction I get from the DSD's. I'd buy them again because I know their results.

I will second that. I have had many a hour of entertainment watching hens trying to beat up my DSD hens. you dont get that with cheep foam ones.

When I first started turkey hunting, I went through three of them foam things from being ripped to shreds by angry hens...

There really is no way to know how many more (if any) turkeys that the realistic decoys bring in, but I would guess it is some.  Older birds, or any birds that have been hunted some, probably eyeball those decoys just a bit more...

I know with waterfowl that realism plays a role...  But they are migratory birds, and after getting shot at, over every plastic duck they fly over, they certainly get more tuned into the whole decoy thing.

That being said, I would love to see an experiment with the DSD facing the Funky Chicken decoy...

Marc has a good point. i will say in the past I never used decoys much but had some success w em , some blow them up. DSDs never have so take it as you will
