Today I went to the Madison Deer and Turkey expo. I got to run quite a few custom pot call makers calls that sounding like crap. I got to the Knight and Hale booth and ran their new moonshiner clear acrylic crystal over a acrylic sound board. Thinking it would sound like crap I hesistantly picked it up and ran it. It was the best sounding pot I ran today. I have a friend that is a pro staffer for them. He was kind enought to give me one. Thing sounds dang good for a production pot and will be a great bad weather call. Looked online and Cabelas has them for $55. Anyone else own a production call that sounds pretty dang good? Scoot
My Dad just got one of those.
I was blown away.
I'd hunt it no problem

Yes. I have a production call that sounds real good. Believe it or not, it's the Knight and Hale Metal Yell. It's all aluminum, aluminum pot and surface. I don't think it has a soundboard. It's pretty thin and I think the metal pot is the reason there may not be a sound board. It screams nice whistle kee kee runs, nice yelps, clucks and awesome purrs. It is NOT anodized if anyone has a problem with that. I condition mine with 200 or 250 wet/dry sandpaper, then a maroon scuff pad to touch it up.
I have several custom made glass/Crystal calls & I got to run the Moonshiner acrylic pot glass call & I too was shocked at how well it sounded, as good or better than lots of the custom calls! I did buy one & not a bit ashamed to carry it opening day!

Fl, thanks for posting vid, I was running mine today and still can't get over how good it sounds. Scoot
I bought a turkey thugs slate pot called "rimshot" on clearance for $5. I figured I would give it to a kid to play around with. I normally find production calls to be lower quality, but this call has seen 10 turkeys die so far in the past 2 years.

WOW THATS A GOOD PRICE .......
I bought a Hooks classic slate in a plastic pot for $20, and I love it for soft yelping, clucking and purring. I use it almost every time I hunt.
Eder's just cancelled my order. They say they are out of stock. ????

Just bought...best price!
Just got mine in the mail today. Its a good call and I'd have no problem hunting it. I ran a bunch of strikers and Dad's Monkeywood sounds really good. Some dymondwoods sounded good (Hanks and Lonzos one piece) while others were too high pitched. The one piece striker it came with looks ok but sounds a little dull to my ears, maybe ok for softer calling. Overall, this call is a best buy with good yelps, and excellent clucks and purrs.
Got mine today sounds really good for the price

Are there two different versions? Online this call is either $13.99 or $40ish and I was just curious...
Got mine in today as well. Scoot was right on the money about this call! It's definitely a steal for $13-$14!!!
MikeStaten, I noticed the same as you. Seems like the harder wood strikers are a bit too high pitched. I'm really liking mine with a Kaiser Ipe, Dad's Purpleheart, Dad's Osage, and Fred Cox Canarywood.
That's a steal for 13.99. I think they made a misprint.
unreal... I have had a over 40 custom pot calls over the years.. from nearly all the call makers. This cheap plastic pot sounds better than 75% of them.... and that's with the provided striker...I haven't even played with different strikers on the call yet..
do you have a woodhaven laminate birch, lowers the pitch a lot. Scoot

Call is very solid - it likes Fowler persimmon. Shocked me at how well it runs.
Yep... the call works. First time using it today.. 15 yards... 10in beard that I pretty much blew off.

AWESOME
NICE CONTRAST IN COLOR
:TooFunny: :TooFunny: great job
If anyone else planned to buy from bow hunters superstore it is backordered. I got notified yesterday it won't be back in until the end of April.

Oh.. and I should add - I called that bird across a river (about 50 yards wide) and up a very steep river bank. He had to really work to get to me. My back was facing the top of the river bank... he ended up popping out in the brush about 10 feet behind me. Had to wait for him to get cleared... and to get some distance.
Congrats FL-Boss!! I was telling Scoot earlier today that our birds are acting crazy right now (gone quiet and seem uninterested as a whole) but there's no doubt in my mind that this call is a flat out killer! I love the sound regardless of who did or didn't build it!

WELL WELL WELL
IT LOOKS LIKE THE WORD GOT OUT AND THEY RAISED THE PRICE ...........
I bought 2 , 13.99 each from that bow hunting site. They do sound pretty good.
Nice bird FL-Boss! I received mine from Midway this week & also ordered another one from bowhunterssuperstore at that incredible price they had for it. I got a call from them the next day saying it was backordered but I've got the other one from Midway I can hunt with. Never used it Saturday but I plan to the next trip to the woods. It's a dandy sounding call especially for the price.
Anyone have a sound file of this call?
This call is a killer, birds are flat eating it up ...
