Title: Favorite pot call surface.
Post by: Spitten and drummen on April 02, 2017, 06:48:06 PM
Just want to see what everyones favorite pot call surface is and why. Mine is slate. I just like the natural tone it has along with the ability to get really soft or loud without losing sound quality. So lets hear yours.

Love slate - as long as it's not damp, or drippy, or really cold.

All around, I like the glass / bronzed glass.

Crystal - but maybe that's because I need the volume out here in Big Sky Country.

I love slate...to me it's harder to find a great slate than it is glass or crystal..lots of them...being said I just got 3 Platz calls...walnut glass/glass...crystal /glass/slate 2 sider. And his cherry slate..all sound great but the cherry slate will be 1st pot out this year...unless I get Eddie wynne slate before the opener...then I will have to see

slate all day long.

Agree - to pick one it would be slate.  I have two really sweet slate calls.  After that it's glass - just so dang consistent.

Crystal and glass followed by ceramic if it's done right.  Anodized aluminum would round out my top 3.

I was always a glass fan as it is easy to run and sounds great. I had an aluminum call years ago that I hated.....then I tried a Lonzo stoned aluminum call this year and....wow, this call sounds amazing and will roll-over playing as softly as I like. Will do tree talk better than any pot I have used, has a variety of tones depending on pressure(but not finicky at all). And the one thing that a pot must have for me is fullness in the big woods, this one does, so for now Stoned Aluminum is my favorite....lol

Aluminum ...specially Atomic 13.. No question. Humid, cold, hot, etc... it always works and runs the same.

I'm surprised so many like slate. Rarely do you see slate calls being posted compared to the other surfaces.

Glass and then ceramic. The 2 most consistent I have found. Also the 2 I sell the most of.

Crystal and second would be slick aluminum. On a dry morning or later in the day, aluminum takes first for me.

This is a tough one. Probably crystal or stoned aluminum. I think who builds the call is more important than what it's made of.

To me crystal is the easiest to run and man does it sound great to my ear, but I have had much better response from turkeys with slate.  I am guessing there are frequencies outside my range of hearing that come from the slate.
