Title: Beginner question for ya...
Post by: deerbasshunter3 on March 29, 2017, 09:29:08 PM
I hate to be asking this this far into the game, but I want to make sure I am getting all that I can out of my mouth calls.

Are you supposed to be putting your tongue over the cut, or to one side or the other, or does it really matter?

Cuts operate according to airflow. Straight tongue/call/ghost cut works well for center of air guys, straight tongue/call/batwing will fit a left/right center of air caller better. You want the air flow running over where the biggest "gap" in a call is. That's what activates the bottom reeds and produces the high pitched  kee-kees and front end of the yelp. Drop jaw or relieve tongue pressure  and the longer top reeds come into play which produce the raspy back end of a yelp. Tommy Walton has a video out where he does reccomend slightly canting a combo or other left/right of center cut calls to the side depending on which side the cut is on for center" of air guys to help activate the top reeds. YouTube  Shane Simpson Mouth Call Mechanics. INCREDIBLY informative and will save you lots of agitation and money at that in your search for the perfect diaphragm for you!
