I shot my 870 with sumtoy choke at 32 yrds with 26 inch barrel with federal heavy weight 7s 3 shots and 3 heavy shot mag blend all 3 inch shells just using the bead which is all I have ever used. aimed at the base of neck middle of neck and at the head the worst 6 shots I have ever shot in my life. I mean terrible. I do not understand it. Like I said I have always shot 870 s and always used just the bead. I really don't think it is me any advice or suggestions? Iam sick

yup with the federal at 30 you may have a basketball pattern. is this a new gun also.

it is a used gun terrible point of impact so my question is the pattern is not good at 30? I got to figure this out I am taking a kid with this gun saturday

With out pic of pattern we dont know. Was it free hand or off bag. Most remington shoot low. Now have seen some shoot all over.

Just give us more info.

no pictures several of the shots would not have killed a bird just looking for a killing patern not a pellet counter

Are you shooting at a big piece of paper, 30"x30" or just a small turkey target?

Don't need a pic, just be more specific. Exactly what is the gun doing when you say "bad pattern"? Is it a bad pattern that is splotchy and low in numbers, or is it a poi issue ? Are you seeing the whole pattern on a big sheet of paper ? Lots of 870 junkies on here, we'll help you out !

my 26" 870 likes a lot more open choke like .570-.580 , My 21" 870 barrel loves the sum toy, and tru lock fed HV choke, "BUT" you better be on or your gonna miss at close range. Thats why i put a red dot sight on my 870.

shot my gun tonight with a .573 choke. Shot both the 5 and 7s again tonight. free hand sitting on a turkey seat against a tree. Same way a shot last night the gun patterened great with the 5s and better with the federal 7s. It is ready to go. thanks for ur help I knew it wasn't me but I did scratch my head lat night

I shoot a Trulock 565 in my 21 inch barrel 870, 20 gauge and it's great...
