Title: 3/16/17 First one of the year
Post by: Camo70 on March 20, 2017, 01:22:13 PM
Just now getting a chance to post. I went opening morning and like to froze to death. Heard 1 gobble and I determined it was a jake but after thinking about it he could have been a long Beard that was cold like me.lol Well I didn't do any good. Next morning was a little warmer and had a few birds gobbling. Well the ones closest to me hit the ground and sounded like they where headed the other way. I waited about  30 mins and firgured I would try to circle them and set up again. I walked about 100 yds and said heck with chasin them so I went back and set up in my original spot. After  letting everything settle down I started calling a little and bam 1 gobbled and he's coming( about 150 yds)! I wait a few minutes and lightly purr he gobbles again but hasn't moved much. I just set my call down. There was a little hump where he was coming from so I didn't want him to slip in and pick me off. About 10 minutes go by and sure enough right before he breaks over the hump I can hear him drummin. (That feeling of your heart about to jump out of you chest never gets old) Well I had my strutter set up just past me and when he seen it he broke running. He stopped at 10 yds right in front of me and started strutting! I putted, he breaks strutt and down goes Frazier!! I started to jump up when out of the corner of my eye I see that he had a friend with him(they other longbeard). Hopefully I can trick him one more time Wednesday lol! Thanks for reading.
