Title: Dead sound woodhaven cherry crystal
Post by: tteel on March 19, 2017, 12:20:43 AM
I have been using a woodhaven cherry crystal for the past 3 or 4 years with excellent results. It is my primary call and I hunt 20 days a season here in Oklahoma. I always keep the call inside or in my vest in storage with a surface saver lid cover. This year I went to condition my calls for season and the call has lost its bite. Is it possible something happened to the sound board or that repetitive conditioning thinned the crystal surface.

I had one do the same thing. I took it back where I bought it and they called WH. WH told them to swap it out for a new one no questions asked.

It would have really taken a lot to have changed the surface so much to change sound of call... I have calls over 20 years old and hunt a lot and have yet to have this happen... My guess would be something happened with sound board or your striker, I have seen 2 piece strikers loosen and just go dead for calling with. Now I don't own the call your talking of but have played them a lot at the store and would check out the call with another striker, or put that striker to another call and see what happens. If there is a issue with the call I would give Woodhaven a call directly to find out about what they will do for you.

Ill call woodhaven on Monday. I have tried multiple fred cox strikers, woodhaven, and fowler. Maybe its just because I was running a crystal mistress before playing the woodhaven

I've had a 2 calls go dead in sound one was sound board got lose and the other was the surface for a bit lose from a drop.

Both times call maker fixed me up even though it was my abuse.

The lose sound board will be just enough to make you think it's not quiet right but then also think it might just be in your head.
