Title: What is in these shells?

I cut open a magblend this weekend and can't quite figure out what this brown stuff is that came out of the shell... Any ideas?

It's called "Flax seed crimp spacer".  See the illustration in the Hevishot catalog:

Looks kinda like birdseed to me.   ;D

So THAT'S why those patches of flax keep showing up around our property every June.........

Those seeds are supposed to be steril.
