Title: Birds are coming off the hills
Post by: Bowguy on February 22, 2017, 11:16:07 AM
This morning I went out listening n was able to hear some gobbling but I had to shock em. Late morn I saw  3 more flocks in dif areas some with longbeards displaying n all 15 to just over 20 birds plus the flock n few pairs I saw this morning.
Lots of red heads but visible but the last flock I couldn't positively anything but the heads.
The games are starting though

Glad to see you have located some birds! I hope to get out one morning this weekend and do some scouting.

Holy moly not sure what I would do if I saw a flock of 52 birds.

My flock of 85-90 are going insane waiting for hens to become receptive. It is Battle Royal cage match morning, noon and evening. A mouse fart will set them off. The pecking order is trying to become established and everyone thinks they should be boss Tom.

The only 3 yr old has his hands full. The others want to take him out so bad they won't even let him drink or eat. Each day I have to catch him and put him alone with the feed and water. When he has had enough he wants to fight again.

The other day he was on the roost fighting off Toms and jakes below him on the ground. The others were distracted or temporarily lost interest and walked away. The 3yr old started getting antsy and flew down rite into the group and started kicking butt. They are relentless Ferocious birds.

Used to seem like every bird in the state lived in my town. Seeing lots more was common. First halfway decent flock I've seen in years. Too early/dark for pics n the way they single filed down the hill I couldn't get pics. Was going to work, no chance for better light. If I see em this afternoon I'll try to get some

Seen 7 long beards together in one field going crazy running after eachother and two in one field and two in another field no hens while out killing geese today.
