I am looking to get a new shotgun for this turkey season. I want a 12 gauge with about a 24inch barrel and would like it to have a pistol grip. I have been looking at the Remington 870 SPS ShurShot Super Mag, Weatherby sa459, and Stoeger M3000. I just want a good all around shotgun I can run-and-gun with. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I'd like to have that size and style gun in the Benelli supernova. But I really think you should take a look at the Remington SPS super mag turkey/predator. That is one sweet turkey gun in my opinion. Short, light, reliable and just plain awesome. One day I'll have to get that one for myself soon as I can convince my wife lol
Get the Remington, don't get a Benelli supernova...
From my own experience if i needed a Pistol type stock I'd go with a Remington 870 or 1187. Reading on here for years I wouldn't be afraid at all of a Mossberg 835 either.
Several years ago I bought a 870 SPS Super Mag Turkey Preditor. It is a great gun. Part of the reason I bought it over the SPS ShurShot is the fully camo receiver/barrel and the scope base mounted to the receiver. I put on an EOTech 512 (I like the ring in addition to the red dot) and I also put in a Timney 870 trigger (available at Midway) to improve the trigger / reduced the creep. Light gun to carry. Fairly well balanced. I did swap out the 20" barrel with a 24" barrel I already had. The extra length is handy if you hunt out of a blind. The SPS ShurShot is a good gun too - depends upon how much you want to sink into a gun.
I don't know how you could be unhappy with thw weatherby sa459 turkey. It's light, it's short, and it patterns very well. Try and find a negitive review on one... Really, Really, nice turkey shotgun at a great price for a quality semi auto
I have always been a Remington man . Have several but my hands down favorite for Turkey Hunting in my Weatherby SA-459. Mine is 20 ga and i probably will never pick up my 12 ga again.Lee
