Looking for a new crow call. I have only pretty much used production type calls in the past.
Does anyone make a custom type crow call out of acrylic like the custom duck calls?
Someone reccamend me the best crow calls. If crow calls were pot calls then suggest a DD Adams winner for me.

If you want to talk with Mr. Gibson and possibly select a wood then PM me, I have his card.

I got a osage and ebony call from Pappy and its a great little call. Definitely worth more than I paid.
The best I've found is from Lonehowl on this site.
Gibson
Gregg Guthridge makes one with an acrylic mouthpiece. Everything he makes is spectacular...
also look at Michael Buckner..top notch.. :icon_thumright:He has a website..
I have not personally ran any better than the crow call by WildTalker Game Calls (Mike Battey). Here is a video of him running it.

Does he have a website or his would I get in touch with him?
Go on Facebook and look up Shadow Turkey Calls and Carvings. Gregg make a really great acrylic crow call. I have one of them!
Gibson makes an excellent crow call!
Darrell Gibson for sure. Call Mr. Gibson at 828/ 287-9277. Ask for his Stubby call in the oak burl. You will not regret it. It is pure Crow
Chad Scruggs makes a good one too! Also Bill Buckner!
That Wildtalker video sounds like it's a great one! I usually prefer all wood, including mouthpiece and I don't have any customs, but really like Faulk's C-50. A PS Olt is what has ridden in my vest for close to 20 yrs, and it still rocks em. The other custom crow I always hear about that hasn't been mentioned is Jack Mincey. If I can hunt with one crow call......why do I need ALL the TURKEY Calls?!? :funnyturkey:

I tried to get one of these but it said the site hadn't been updated in some time and I had zero luck contacting anyone. Would love to have a Battey crow call. Having said that, I've got a Gibson and love it thus far.
I'm looking for one too. I have always had some sort of Primos crow call. I seldom strike a bird with a crow call. My son makes fun of my current call and says it sounds horrible. I don't hunt crows, just want one to strike a bird or light one up if I want to move and relocate. I'm thinking of calling Mr. Gibson today but I'm not sure what I would ask him for other than something to fire up gobblers. Anymore recommendations or suggestions about what to ask him for.

Tell him you want a field grade crow call to use as a locator call. The opening on the locator call is larger than some crow hunting calls to have more volume. He knows what you are looking for and will fix you up quickly.
I just spoke to Mr. Gibson. A fine gentleman and I enjoyed the conversation. I'm really not sure what kind of call he is making me, it's something new he just started making. He said he took 4 to UNCOI and sold them as soon as he got there. I think it's gonna be made from burl oak. I told him whatever he thought would sound best.
Just wanted to say thanks for the input, hope I don't get addicted to crow calls like I see some are, that would cut into my elk budget!
Must be his new smaller call, it is a good one!

Those are beautiful calls. He asked me what I had in mind for wood and I told him I admire pretty calls and have a few nice boxes but I just wanted one for hunting. I told him he could wrap it in duct tape if that made it sound good. He laughed at that, I explained I hunt hard and cover a lot of ground it wasn't gonna set on a shelf. He gave me the impression none of his calls wouldn't look good on a shelf.
They're all beautiful n all sound great. And he's stabilizing most if not all now I believe which adds to the weatherproofing. He told me the screamer was made specially for locating turks. I've user both stabilized n non. Both work
Please educate me on what stabilized wood is.
It's a resin vaccuum sealed in to make the wood more impervious to the weather. All the outer wood pores get filled in
That must be why a lot of the calls I see look polished and so slick
That's what the finished product looks like. I'm no expert on stabilizing but that is the jist of it
I'm guessing that process takes place after the call is turned and sounded or basically completed.
I'm thinking you're correct. Again I don't wish to mislead you w bad info.
Resin stabilzed wood has the advantage of both wood and acrylic, but its different than a straight cast acrylic call (like a waterfowl call) or a straight wood call. I personally love a stabilized call. Very heavy and tough, and sound really carries from it. Plus, you can get all kinds of awsome colors. Some guys stabilize in their shops, but having your wood professionally stabilized is much better imo.
That bottom pic of Daryls calls looks like all stabilized calls. You can take wood that is nice looking (like burls) but otherwise to punky or weak to use for a call, have it stabilized with resin, and it becomes a usable piece. Strong, waterproof etc.
Also, yes, they polish up slick and shiny, but if you can also do that to most any wood call as well if you want.

Hi I'm the other Bow Guy ,I'm also another Daryal, me and Gibson just spell our name diff. I'm the guy that stabilize woods for Gibson. The process takes place before any work is done to the call blank, some times we will round the call blank but I can still stabilize a square blank . I can stabilize a couple dozen blanks at a time , most the woods that I do are spalted woods or burls the dense grain woods don't really need to be stabilized , the wood is placed in a vacuum chamber and as the air is being pulled from the pores and voids in the wood the resin is entering these areas . Once the blank is saturated with resin then it is baked at 200 degrees to set the resin to acrylic , the blank can be turned to shape. Thesuccess I've had is that I use a big vacuum pump, 7cfm pump. After over 25 years in the industrial refrigeratin service field I have a lot experience with pressures and vacuum . With this process you can takes a spalted wood and turn into a beautiful work of art and sounds great

That's a pretty interesting process. I like to learn new things especially when it comes to calls, thanks.
Man...what a question! Now a days it's almost like asking who makes the best box call. There are some good crow calls being made today, where as 10 years ago the choices were few. I own a pile of Darrell Gibson's, some of Bob Buckners, Chad Scruggs, a couple of Battey's and just received one from Anthony Ellis. Anthony just started making a few and I'll have to say it is a mighty fine crow caller. You won't go wrong with the names mentioned in this post. If you are looking for wooden tone boards, Gibson and Buckner both make good wooden mouth piece calls. The only regret I have about Unicoi is that I didn't come home with one of Daryal's (bow guy) crow calls. He's another fine student of Darrell Gibson.
Mark ,send me a pm with address and something will come your way, I ment to hand out some calls at Unicoi but it being my first time there I was overwhelmed at all the great call makers and their work.
As Mark said bunch of good names here. Won't go wrong with any of them.
suprised nobody has mentioned jack Mincey
I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of call I get. I think I am gonna try to call some crows up when I start shed hunting.
Forgot....Bowguy that's a beautiful call.
Thanks Rzrbac, Gibson showed me the trick to get the Purple Heart over the sycamore . Hope u enjoy it the Purple Heart was left over from a recurve bow that I built
You build bows? If you have any pics of em Id like to see em? PM me if you want.
Love recurves, or any trad bow actually.
Mark
Yes I build longbows and recurves . I had a few at Unicoi . When I get this loading pictures to forum down pat I will post pictures. I build laminated bows and use bamboo and carbon core I'm building one now that will have some of the new stabil-kore foam with bamboo..it is a one piece 62" deflex/reflex design with cocobola and Birdseye maple riser and Osage orange outer limb laminates under clear glass. I can text or send by email ,I just haven't got the uploading pic to site figured out yet.
Would love to see em, my email is:

Thanks!

Here are a couple pics that Darrell Gibson asked me to post up. They are his new stubby design. Don't let that word stubby fool ya. These things have a mighty big sound and are all crow., with the exception of the one owl hooter..it's all owl!!

Now you got me wondering if that oak burl is what mine will look like. Those almost look too pretty to hunt with.
