Will be going to Florida for an Osceola in March. Can anyone recommend a good brand of waterproof snake boots?
Stay away from the Danner jackals. They leaked almost immediately. Never heard a bad thing about the danner pronghorn snakeboots though.

I got some Irish Setter Vapor Trek 8" boots last year and like them a lot after a full season. I picked up the snake boots in the store and they are absolutely the lightest snake boots I've ever seen, and I've owned a couple of brands and handled many others in the store.
Give them a look, you'll be impressed. And the Irish Setters run a bit small, the salesman steered me to a full size bigger than I usually wear and they are a great fit for me. I'd recommend trying them on somewhere rather that just ordering from somewhere if at all possible.
Not sure about most guys that wear snake boots, or chaps... but I walk too much to wear such irritants. I have yet to find any that I could stand to walk 5 miles in, much less 15.
And then, you have the issue of a large snake being very capable of biting you above the snake boot...just find some good boots that are comfy & dry, & watch your step. ????????
Danner Pronghorns are the most comfortable I've owned. We put on 10-15 miles some days snake hunting and it's not a problem in them.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170123/64c788945b4c2768f4ef75a33c8edda1.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170123/1930f7886aa472ab06eb59b221f7eb40.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170123/0eb9c281e34011be926e33518caf0b73.jpg)

Depends on your budget, but I like the game winner brand...high and low top versions...waterproof...no but I have bought the whole price range of boots and some (cheaper) ones worked better than the ones I paid more clams for...
Don't know about "good" snake boots..............
But I can tell you about GREAT snake boots !! Irish Setter Vaprtrek !!!! They're like wearing 17" running shoes.............no crap !! I had a pair of Red Heads before that lasted me about 15 years. But they were heavy and took some breaking in before they quit being miserable so & so's.
The Vaprtreks are light, comfy and ready to rock straight outta the box. have two seasons (TONS of miles) on them and have not a single gripe
I think the Danner Jackal II is arguably one of the best snake boots. I hunted hard in them from March-June and the goretex held up, keeping my feet dry each day. I will say that they take a substantial amount of wear before breaking in, though.
Here is another thread which has some input. I don't wear them, but have been wondering the same thing. I have 2 friends that go to Florida every year and neither one own snake boots. I'm sure it would give you a piece of mind though.

I can say after being bitten by a stump tail moccasine , that i will wear snakeboots in warm weather the rest of my days. They may be a bit uncomfortable and somewhat of a pain with long treks , but spending several days in the hospital negates that for me. :camohat:
danner pronghorn :icon_thumright:
I will second the the Danner pronghorn. Just put a new coat of mink oil on them to get ready for year # 5. Would stay away from anything made by Rocky. I think I had more water inside my boots than outside just walking through wet grass.

I've tried both a pair of redheads and lacrosse and neither held up very well. Chippewas get a lot of good reviews and will likely be the pair I try next. I put quite a few miles in them each year.

I have been wearing redheads for years , pretty dry boots also
They not rubber mind you but I am happy with them
And got struck last year by copperhead and they paid off
Won't go without them now
I got me a pair of Lacrosse and the wife a pair of game winners 3 years ago, and I will tell you my Lacrosse are already worn out and no longer water proof and the wife's Game winners from academy are still in good shape and water proof. We both use them for bow season deer hunting and turkey. I just asked her while typing this and her only negative was how long it took to break them in.
I think for the price I will probably be trying the Game Winners next.

I wear and swear by my Turkey Hunter Lites. Buy once, cry once.
I dont know what kind I even have but bought mine also for when I first went down to florida, from MN don't need them other wise. Don't know how the zipper one are for water proof, but will be looking at them for my next boot. Because when you get back to camp from putting on ten miles you would like them boots off fast. And it is a bitch unlaseing them sometimes. Thats why i think the zipper ones would be nice, something to think about.

I use the Red Heads also. Got 5 years out of the first pair, on my 2nd year with the ones i have now.
It doesn't matter what kind you buy, they all will leak after a couple seasons of extensive walking. Buy what feels best and be prepared to replace them if you walk through water.
I'm a big (fat) guy, and have big calves, most snake boots are too small in the calf and I can't wear them. Any snake for big legs?
Don't know if they count as snake boots but I mostly wear the all rubber Lacross Burley which is knee high. I have other gore tex/leather/fabric but I can count on the Burleys not leaking. They get hot but they work for me.
I have muck woody armour & they work......Been hit before but not great for hiking. Got a pair of Danner steadfast that I really like. Almost like wearing tennis shoes.
For big calves, really one of the old school rubber ones would be best. The redhead or cabelas version, they stopped making them a couple of years ago. Can type that in on ebay and might be able to find some. Best waterproof ones and they last, but they are really stiff. The new muck Pursuit snake boot looks like it might can acomodate a larger calf. I have fairly large calves and a 13 foot, and have tried a many a snake boot and own several. The Bogs Diamondback is okay, but may be too tight on a really big calve. They are waterproof and last as well, but again are stiff. Bass Pro has a newer redhead boot that looks to be a really good one (the fangtough one), but not sure how tight they are yet. They also say snakeproof through the shaft, but nothing about the foot. If they are fully snakeproof and fit, that might be the one. They look to have the same sole as their tracker 6" boots, which I have owned several pair of that are extremely comfortable and last. Just a matter of the snakeproof portion, fit, and how well the rest of the boot stays sealed over time.
I have tried several different brands over the years and for me, nothing I have worn compares to the danner pronghorns. I'm on my fourth pair now. I do an awful lot of walking, wading creeks and hunting around lower areas that hold water here in Florida and they have held up very well.
