Lots of good in preseason scouting, but it tells a story that might have changed by turkey season. We went out today to take my treestands down from public land. I didn't even hunt this stand because I did so well at another location. I do hunt turkeys with much success along the river here, have for several years. I know for sure this area has birds, but we didn't see even a track. It's because a few hundred yards away is more timber and fields full of waste grain. Those birds are mostly worried about food this time of year. Last winter I saw large groups feeding in picked bean and corn fields just a little ways away. I could walk in this area opening morning of turkey season with complete confidence because the turkeys will be there.
I hope it works out for you, here our birds are typically in a different location than they are right now. But it should be a great starting point.
