Title: NW Nebraska DIY Turkey Hunt
Post by: johnson16 on January 07, 2017, 12:16:14 PM
I am planning to do a DIY turkey in Nebraska for merriams, I know there is plenty of public ground ,but how difficult is it to get permission on private/and trespass fees, better to go early or later in the season, and is sunday hunting allowed ,and the turkey outlook for the spring of 2017.Any info would be greatly appreciated.I have harvested many turkeys in Pa. and heard so many good posts on hunting Nebraska.

I would say it's pretty hard to get on private unless you use a outfitter. You can hunt seven days a week and from 1/2 hour before to sunset. Plenty of birds around on public ground.

I'll be in NW Nebraska for the opener.

I would say plan to hunt public but if you see birds on private while in the truck it wouldn't hurt to stop and ask if you can locate the owner. I know where we gained access they care about deer because it's big money to lease/tresspass fee for mulies and whitetails but they seemingly could care less about the turkeys. We did have an in though knowing a ranch hand who got our foot in the door.
