Title: Mounting an Old Fan
Post by: AR Cowboy on December 21, 2016, 04:44:14 PM
Hello guys,

This spring my brother shot a beautiful Rio. He called yesterday to ask if I would do the fan mount. The problem is the fan has been laying in the garage since May and with some meat on is still stiff as a board.

Is it possible to rehydrate the fan, cut off the meat, and reshape the feathers?

Thanks for the help!!

*This is in taxidermy section as well, but I don't know if it will ever be seen there.  :cowboy:

VanHelden Game Calls did a tutorial on just this.
Just scroll down and find "Meat Free Turkey Fan for Display."

Yep, stick it in a bucket of water for awhile.

Thank you guys, I will get a picture up once I complete the project. I'm no expert but I've done a couple and he didn't want to pay someone to do it.

I'd pull the feathers instead of trying to get a fan that old scraped
