Help me out guys and gals, my next "project" turkey gun is a single shot. Tell me what you have for a gun/choke/shell combo. 12ga and 20ga are both on the planning board so lets hear what you got.
Thanks, Gerri
I did a H&R, drilled and tapped with TruGlo sights and I use a Pure Gold .670. It bites on both ends so a Limbsaver recoil pad is a must!
My first dedicated turkey gun 20 years ago was the H&R single dipped in original Bottomland in 12 gauge. Chambered for 3.5" and I made the mistake of shooting 3.5" through it. The thing weighs a bit over 5 lbs so those rounds were brutal. Sold it the next year and regretted that decision. Couple years back found one just like it on gunbroker, and hit the buy now button for $90.
Shoot 3" Hevi #7 through a Jellyhead .660. I sent the barrel to SumToy who drilled/tapped the barrel for front and rear fiber optic fully adjustable sights. With 3" Hevi loads the recoil is very tolerable and its the perfect big woods gun.
:icon_thumright: thanks guys... keep the info coming

They can be hard to find now but the Mossberg SSi-ONE is just about the perfect single shot hunting gun I've shot. They were made with 3.5" chambered 12 gauge barrels that are over-bored like the 835 & 935 shotguns. They have no exposed hammer, they are threaded for Accu-Mag chokes, built-in scope base, excellent bores and other great features for a hunting gun. If you can find one reasonably priced, it would certainly be one that I'd consider.
Thanks,
Clark
I don't have a single shot currently, but I have always wanted an H&R Pardner 12 ga.
The Henry firearms company has a all new single shot shotgun listed in the new 2017 catalog and web site. It will be made in 12GA, 20GA with choke tubes and .410 Full, also in various rifle calibers, blued and checkered walnut.
On the 12 ga. side, I picked up a well maintained Stevens 94B for $50 from a co-worker. It was an excellent platform for a project gun. It's a plain jane full choked long barreled gun. Plenty to work with if you decide to go full mod on it.
On the 20 ga. side I bought a H&R fixed full choked gun for $80 a few years ago. It shoots extremely well with the FC wad Federal shells. Need to have it milled and tapped for a 336 mount.
In the 20 I'm still looking for a well cared for Savage 220A that won't break the bank, some people are really proud of them but I keep searching the net and flea markets with fingers crossed.
i have a 20ga rossi that i really like.i sent the barrel to sumtoy and he threaded the barrel, made a choke for it,drill and taped it and put a scope rail on it. i then put an ati adjustable pistol grip stock on it and a burris ff3 red dot. shooting federal heavyweight #7s i can put 120 pellets in a paper plate at 40 yards and honestly the recoil is nothing. my step son has been shooting the 3in shells out of it since he was 8 years old and he is a small framed boy. hope this helps, good luck on your search they are fun little guns to hunt with.
CVA Scout 20 gauge.
I put a red dot and sling on it and shoot the factory choke.
160 average with Federal HW 7's at 40 yards. I think it's 5.2 pounds? Love it!

This is a youth H&R 20 ga I set up last year. I shoot HW #7 through a fixed choke. It's super light and deadly out to 40 yards.

This is what I'm thinking........

I picked up a Cva scout 20ga this weekend. I really think I'm going to like it. I've been hunting with a single for years. My main gun is a H&R 12ga 3 1/2 with factory threaded barrel. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170116/a56eccbf320b9a6057ea54363e54b9a1.jpg)
