Hi members-- I just posted this on Gobbler Nation as well. Now members here who hunt at Stewart State Forest in NY will probably read this as they know that most locator callers will not work at Stewart State Forest. Not with those huge military cargo planes constantly flying overhead! Add to that the State police pistol range and the constant shooting with a guy on a bullhorn giving commands. The turkeys there will not shock gobble much.
So my secret that I have used with success there is really no secret at all. Not to hardcore hikers like me. It is called --THE STORM-- the worlds loudest whistle!! Go to a hiking section to get yours. Give a short burst even outside or your eardrums won't thank you for it!! It is probably equal to an airhorn for sure and perhaps better. It WILL make toms shock gobble--secret revealed.
I haven't had trouble striking em there on a hootin stick or Gibson crow call n neither is crazy loud
It depends on where you used those locator callers. They may work better down near the Great Swamp area--- but not close to the State Police Pistol Range. And if a plane is taking off and was just overhead-- they may need time to settle down a bit .
