Title: Fall gobbler(with pics)

Oct. 1st opens IL archery turkey season and I was out and set  up. Heard birds but nothing would work but I did shoot a doe that got too close. Oct 8th nice and sunny but nothing heard or seen in a.m. After lunch I went to another known longbeard roost area and called.Eight came in but no shot. I was set up under them for the a.m. As always very little limb talk. After fly down it was on. Fighting, yelping,strutting and gobbling. One dominant bird was picking on a longbeard so I helped him out with an arrow to stop the fight. After stomping there buddy it was back on. Running around my ridge top and gobbling till 9:00. In all the commotion they forgot to check out my decoy. I'll be back on that public land ridge top next weekend to check out the new pecking order.

The pics tie it all together. Taking my nephew out Saturday for youth season and plan to pack along a couple calls in case the turkeys decide to show up. I'm hopeful that he gets his deer early and even more hopeful that the birds show up shortly after. If all goes well, maybe we'll both get a turkey too. Again, congratulations.

That is awesome!  I just grabbed a slate and put it in my back back for my deer hunt tonight.  Congrats.

Awesome job. Congrats. I used to take any bird in the fall but now that I am older and understand how important hens are to my local population , I won't shoot any bird in the fall unless it's a mature tom. Close but not quite as fun as spring time. Congrats again on a nice fall tom.
