Title: Checking in....
Post by: 357MAGNOLE on August 16, 2016, 05:55:54 PM
Hey folks,

Dont get on here too often in the off season as it is, but I got really busy this past couple months. I got orders down to Florida and have been in search of a house, so I have spent the last 3 months looking, finding, buying my first home.

Got a house in Yulee, north of Jacksonville. On the same day I closed on the house, my order of Lonnie Sneed calls came in the mail.  They all sound great, but I have yet to master the lonesome hen. I have to figure this one out, its a little harder than a pot call for me. Very unique, all the calls look great and are definitely hand made by the order and not mass produced.

Moving in a few weeks, hope everyone is doing well.  Also, on the same day I closed I got my first 1911 pistol.  It was a pretty darn good day!

This might help with Lonesome Hen...https://youtu.be/ztyTD7IXFGw
I've found small, short circles produce the best sound. The middle of the surface seems to produce the best gobbler yelps. Edges, best hen yelps. Gobbler yelps seem to sound best with almost the entire bottom of call covered with your hand...Hen, more open...Just keep adjusting the amount of the bottom opening is covered with your hand. You'll find the sweet spot...

Not sure if you still had questions regarding Lonesome Hen...I just realized something today that I hadn't noticed I was doing. Seems as though, at least my L/H works WAY better after it's been stroked for a while (meaning when it has a track from the striker on it). Seems when I use it for a little while without conditioning it, it sounds way better...Wondering if you were trying to keep it conditioned? That could be the problem with running it...
