Title: homicidal turkey
Post by: rblake on August 02, 2016, 07:44:54 PM
A coworker witnessed a young tom "attacking" a poult in her yard. She reports chasing off the tom which returned later to finish off the poult. I am unaware of this type of behavior in turkey. Anyone else witnessed similar behavior?

Never seen that. I've seen Jake's gang up and whip Tom's, and I've seen Jake's whip each other, and I've seen Tom's whip Jake's and other Tom's but never seen a Tom go after a poult.

I've never seen that behavior.   Maybe the poult was sick and the gobbler started picking at it.   I've seen other domesticated birds do this.

Well, it happened again. My coworker was on her back porch and heard something running in the woods. A young turkey was chased into her back yard by a Tom. The Tom "pecked" the young turkey to death. Seems as someone has to go next season.
