What is your opinion on who makes the most reliable 4 stroke outboard engine.
I vote Yamaha.
I've had several 4 stroke outboards and have purchased them for our hunting club as well. I run a 150 Yamaha now and love it--no probelms at all. I do think that on smaller outboards i prefer Honda's--say 20 HP and less. I did notice when I went to Alaska that it seemed that 90% of the outborards I saw of all sizes were Honda's--evern the Home land Securty boat had 3 big Hondas on the back. The motor on our camp boat is a 115 4 stroke Mercury. I have heard some say they have problems with the 4 stroke Mercury but I can't say the same about this one. it is used every single day and runs like a top.
I have a Yamaha in a 40 hp, great motor and i have a 90 hp mercury both are good motors for 4 strokes, just don't run ethane gas, run regular gas..
Yamaha for several years here. No complaints whatsoever.
I had a 90 4 stroke merc...dang thing wouldn't start unless I ran the motor dry at the dock..would definitely look at the yamahas
I've got a Yamaha 115 I bought in 2002, only been in the shop once for injector screens clogged up, my fault using ethanol gas. Also had a Honda 40 for about 5 years with no problems. Both good engines.

I had a Yamaha 25 4stroke on my boat and liked it so much I bought a 60. Best engine I ever owned.
Honda four stroke is my vote.
