How many birds have you guys got mounted? I have 2 full full bodies, my first longbeard when I was 12 (11" beard and 1 1/4 spurs) and my rio from Texas about 16 years ago. I also have a breast mount of a triple beard (11 1/2" 9 1/2" 7 1/2") that I shot the same year.( talk about an expensive spring!). I have 2 fan mounts of birds that aren't huge but have special meaning. One was a bird I hunted all season long and finally killed the next to last day. The other is the first bird my cousin ever called in. (I had called 6 in for him over the years and he wanted to "repay me"). With any luck maybe I can a full bodied merriams to the wall next spring!
I have one full body turkey mounted and several fan's and beards that all have a special meaning in my hunting cabin. After paying the price of that full turkey mount, i decide for that price i could buy a nice gun. Mounting a full body turkey is not cheap..i always take pictures and i have a cedar box that i also keep a lot of my turkey beards in also..
Never mounted one. Have three fans with beards on plaques and one is my first Longbeard and the other two are special in their own way. Try to keep the beards but have list a good many due to moving 3 times and pets but I have started to keep spurs in the last 8 years or so.
Got two mounted, Rio from TX and my biggest eastern from VA. Would love to get an Osceola and a merriams and if I'm fortunate enough to do it I'll mount them also. Other than that I just save beards and spurs anymore, plenty of fan mounts after 23 years.

For full mounts 5, I have my first Eastern, double beard Eastern, Rio, Merriam, and Osceola. Also have a Rio chest mount, two fan/beard plaques, and two feet/beard mounts.
Non-turkey...I have brown trout, 2 whitetails, pig, fox squirrel. I've kept my taxidermist in business over the years.
I have 3 full body mounts. 1 double bearded eastern, 1 double bearded rio and 1 more eastern with odd colored wings.
I never planned on mounting a turkey period. I always cut the spurs off and threw them in a bucket and put the beards on beard boards. Then I killed one with 56" of beard and I decided what the heck, I need a turkey mount. So I have one!
I only have one turkey mount and it is the first bird I ever killed, a smoke phase Osceola. I have some other miscellaneous stuff mounted. Some are better than others but they all have a special meaning to me. I have definitely leaned that you get what you pay for with taxidermy.

Full body mounts
2 - Easterns
1 - Osceola
1 - Rio
1 - Merriams
1 - Gould's
2 - Ocellated
I like looking at mounts, tail fans, spurs and beards on the wall. They say the first step in recognizing an addiction is being able to admit to it. Ok I admit to it... :icon_thumright:
I've got no turkey mounts per say. I've got one fan on a plaque with the Spurs and beard. I've got one buck done as a European mount and I've got a black bear half mount done. That's it. Nothing real special.
I'm still waiting to get one nice enough for a full mount, mine so far have either had broken Spurs or just weren't big enough. I've got four of my five fans on the wall.

Thanks guys. I only have one buck from big cypress. The rest are from other places but all of them are from swfl. Most were killed in the cypress or very close to cypress heads.
I've had only one turkey that I shot mounted. He was special since he was the 1st legal bird shot in in the modern era in the county that I was hunting.
Back then, he was a big bird. He weighed 24 lbs. had an 11.5" beard and 1.30" and 1. 25" spurs.
He's in a flying pose and even with wings bent, they are over 60" from wing tip to wing tip.
Wild turkeys were not too common then, so about 25 years ago, I put him in a friend's gun shop so that people could see a turkey gobbler "up close and personal."
I've kept beards & spurs of other birds and they bring back memories of hunts with good friends.
In the years when we lived in Illinois, I shot some nice bucks but never had one mounted. I saved the antlers from some of them and still have a few.
A good friend in Southern Illinois had a trophy room built for all of his mounts. At one time, he had more mounted animals than any private person in the state of Illinois. He had mounts of all kinds from all over the world.
I understand they were donated to various museums at his death. They were truly spectacular.
Thanks,
Clark
Sounds like an awesome collection your buddy had Clark!!

Nice collection gslam95. You've got some dandy deer there and I'd like to say thank you for sharing. More importantly, I'd like to say thank you for not getting your bear mounted with the mouth wide open as if it's about to speak someone. I'll probably catch some flack for this but that's got to be the tackiest pose anyone could choose. Black bears aren't known for being aggressive like many mounts depict them to be. Thanks for keeping it realistic and natural looking.
Very nice, gslam95!
I only have one fan/beard/spur mount currently... When I get more birds with significant meaning maybe there will be more mounts!
I will have 5 turkey mounts when my taxidermist finishes the birds at his shop. I only have one currently on the wall; a double beard from Virginia with good hooks that my brother called in for me. Pics of the mounted bird and ones I dropped off at the shop are below.

No full body mounts for me. Now, maybe if I happen to pop a cool color phase bird, or something like that some day...
That Maryland bird has some hooks featheredhat.
Dang! Those are some nice mounts fellas. In addition to the turkeys I have 2 shoulder mounts of buck, my first ringneck, and a 23" largemouth I caught when I was 10. I've killed a ton of buck but only 2 I thought were big enough or meant enough to spend the money on. I almost got both my first coyote and my first bobcat mounted. Looking back at how many I killed since then I'm glad I didn't. I love looking at other peoples mounts but as for my own it's kind of like new living room furniture. At first it's really something but 10 years later it's just the same old thing you've looked at every day! But like I said, I love seeing others mounts!

Yes, it was. His "room" was more like a museum. I never knew the square footage but it was huge, with high ceilings and platforms for the bears and other large animals.
He was a true student of the art of hunting. He started hunting as an older man, after he retired but made up for all the years of work when he did not have the time to hunt.
He had a map that went with each mount, showing exactly where he'd hunted, the type of rifle and ammo used and all the particulars of the hunt.
My father-in-law introduced me to him and arranged for my first guided tour. It was quite an experience. Looking back now, I wish I'd kept notes and taken pictures. It would have
made a great story and one that frankly should have been recorded.
Most people would not be able to do all that he did but it said that you can start hunting even at an older age. Maybe not in Africa or Asia but as long as the desire is there,
you can still hunt.
Thanks,
Clark

I have some mounts. I started back in the mid to late 80's and the woodduck was the last bird I had a taxidermist do a couple of years ago. I still enjoy them all. I didn't mount the birds on the wall (I did make the wood plaques they are on), the turkey cape, or the big game heads, but I did all the other stuff myself.
My room downstairs.

Very impressive, man. Where did you kill your banded longbeard(s)?
Wow! Starting to regret starting this thread. I'm getting insanely jealous!! Lol! Some really great mounts. Wish I had the money or the time to hunt half that!
8 turkey full body mounts
3 whitetail shoulder mounts
2 black fox squirrels
9 deer euro mounts
1 bobcat
Several Barnwood boxes full of fans, beards and spurs from over the years
I have several deer one bull elk and a bear mounted. never mounted a turkey for no specific reason.
There is a small barn behind my house and a basement under me full of skulls claws beards and spurs.
I made the decision 15 years ago to save my taxidermist money and spend it on ammunition arrows and gas for my truck. Never looked back.
i love looking at everyones mounts and loved all you guys rooms,i love big spurs and that last bird featheredhat showed was amazing, loved to have got that one,i only have one gobbler mounted, the first one i ever got but it was a pretty good one,24 pounds,10.5 inch beard and 1 3/8 inch spurs.i will say this though while some people put signs and liscense plates on their garage walls i have mine about completly feathered with tail fans and capes.i did kill a bearded hen a few years ago that i wish i had got mounted,i know some are against shooting them, but where i live they are kinda rare and this one was special,it had a 9 inch beard, which after doing a little researching i have found out that is a super beard for a hen.i got it in the fall with a crossbow, i did make a cape out of it that turned out awesome, and i keep all my beards hanging up and the spurs on a big leather string.thanks for sharing all the pics fellers i hope one day i will become savy enough to be able to post a few.
Awesome mounts guys!!! Thanks for sharing!! :icon_thumright:

Here's what I've got so far. After I retire next spring, I plan on seriously adding to my collection. :fud:
At home I have 4 shoulder mounts of bucks, 2 full body mount gobblers, 5 ducks, a fox squirrel, several antlers, a European deer mount, a cow skull I found and had decorated Indian style, a deer skull found in the woods and a gator head. Along with old duck decoys, calls and other assorted memoirs.
