Title: This is the most frustrating season that I've ever had.
Post by: dawgfrombama on April 04, 2011, 09:02:36 PM
I have hunted at least 4 to 5 days per week since the season came in on March 15th.  I've only heard gobbles on 4 of those days.  Only one of those days did I have a bird in range but could not see him because it was so thick in the area where he flew down.  On the bright side of things, I see fresh turkey sign nearly everytime I go.  If I don't kill a bird in Alabama this year, it will mark my 2nd year in a row that I've come up empty handed at the end of the season.  I did kill 2 in Kansas last year.  If my luck does'nt change here in my home state I will be super dissapointed,  maybe I can make up for it in Texas.  I leave for the San Angelo area next Friday.

I know first hand how tuff it can be. All of a sudden the light switch goes on and all is forgotten in a day or 2 when the birds start flopping. San Angelo is awsome, been there a few times.

Hang in there

Just stay ready. It will happen when you least expect it. Next to the truck, ready to leave, and one gobbles 80 yards away. Walking back up the ridge, making a bunch of noise in crunchy leaves, and he gobbles on the other side of the ridge.

You can't get him sitting at home, and your not doing that, so it's gonna happen.  :icon_thumright:

God Bless,
David B.

Just read an article, in Peterson's Hunting I believe, that said turkeys are way down in the South East due to poor nesting for several years straight and predation. SC"s kill was almost half what it was several years ago and counties in Texas haven't registered a bird in 12 years so they closed the season. Despite 100" of snow the last few years, New England has lots of birds with Maine and NH setting several consecutive records, but our season limits are typically only 1 or 2 spring birds, hardly worth traveling across the country for.
