I have hunted at least 4 to 5 days per week since the season came in on March 15th. I've only heard gobbles on 4 of those days. Only one of those days did I have a bird in range but could not see him because it was so thick in the area where he flew down. On the bright side of things, I see fresh turkey sign nearly everytime I go. If I don't kill a bird in Alabama this year, it will mark my 2nd year in a row that I've come up empty handed at the end of the season. I did kill 2 in Kansas last year. If my luck does'nt change here in my home state I will be super dissapointed, maybe I can make up for it in Texas. I leave for the San Angelo area next Friday.
Hang in there Dawg! Your birds will be ready to die sooner then later. :you_rock: :you_rock: :you_rock: :you_rock: :you_rock:
I know first hand how tuff it can be. All of a sudden the light switch goes on and all is forgotten in a day or 2 when the birds start flopping. San Angelo is awsome, been there a few times.
Hang in there
You been getting some nasty weather haven`t ya??
yeah, its flooding here right now. We've had a ton of rain so far this yr
I think turkeys clam right up in that nasty weather. I`ve been watching it on the news you guys are getting hammered!! Almost seems like everyday.
I definitely feel you over here in georgia as well. Rain, cold weather, and the birds here are just acting crazy. Last year I was alread tagged out with 3 birds. Just goes to show ya how crazy turkey hunting can get I guess. Hopefully you'll Have good luck for the rest of the season! I sure hope mine changes pretty quick!
It's been a very weird season

:icon_thumright: dont want to bust your chops but you are hunting and IO hope having a good time , so just "continue to persevere ' and enjoy . :icon_thumright: :happy0064:
I can relate , last year we had them all over us ,this year we've seen one Jake a ton of hens and they have developed a case of lock jaw
Just stay ready. It will happen when you least expect it. Next to the truck, ready to leave, and one gobbles 80 yards away. Walking back up the ridge, making a bunch of noise in crunchy leaves, and he gobbles on the other side of the ridge.
You can't get him sitting at home, and your not doing that, so it's gonna happen. :icon_thumright:
God Bless,
David B.
Hang tough man, it will happen!!
Had that problem in Iowa last year. Hope its not that tuff this year. I'll let ya'll know in a week.
Just read an article, in Peterson's Hunting I believe, that said turkeys are way down in the South East due to poor nesting for several years straight and predation. SC"s kill was almost half what it was several years ago and counties in Texas haven't registered a bird in 12 years so they closed the season. Despite 100" of snow the last few years, New England has lots of birds with Maine and NH setting several consecutive records, but our season limits are typically only 1 or 2 spring birds, hardly worth traveling across the country for.
