I'm gettin the itch. Need a call like a hole in my head but I want one. So I feel like I'm gonna have to buy one. Open to suggestions. Would like to keep under 75$ and would prefer a good ol playin slate. What say y'all?
Thanks.

Halloran's new slate
As always, my first recommendation for pot calls in general is Yingling. After that I'd say you could look into the hot hen by Lonnie Sneed. John Sinclair has his yellowheart slate and I like it so far but once my Yingling and Sneed slates get here, the Sinclair may find its way to another vest or the classifieds. I really won't need 3 as I rarely use a slate anyway. If you're looking for a Sneed call, best call and get on the list now. It'll be d of summer or fall before you can get one at this point. Good luck with whatever you choose.
Brad Roberts just finished up a design of slate over glass in a walnut or popalar pot. I heard the soundfiles and ordered one right away. They are 75 shipped and come with a matched one piece striker.
I don't know if I should say dang y'all or thank y'all lol. Yep, definitely gonna have to get one. Thanks for all the suggestions. Y'all just keep in givin me ideas. Thank y'all.

And alright, since y'all got my wheels turning on pot call, what about these spring creek box calls? Need one of those too right?
An could somebody pm me contact info for Lonnie sneed Cornelius and brad Roberts? Thanks.

Gary Taylor from Stone Road Calls makes some fantastic calls.
Wow-- I might order one of these!
The best slates Ive heard are Schafers and Hallorans laminate. Imo other halloran calls are the craze but the laminate just sounds better.
Good suggestions so far. Another one is a member on here... mspaci... Mike Paciello.
You need to run the call yourself instead of ordering and hoping.
I've got 2 dozen calls upstairs in my drawers that were ordered, look pretty and are mediocre in sound quality.
Go to a show or visit the call maker at his shop and play the pots with the strikers you choose.
All turkey calls make turkey sounds. Not all calls have "it."
First off, all the calls listed above are excellent. Just wanted to throw another one at you. Kevin Farr of pecker wrecker turkey calls makes some awesome sounding pot calls. If you're in the market for some really good sounding calls made to flat out hunt, look him up.

Springcreek box calls?
Mike at Springcreek has great customer service and his calls are 1st class.
I have several of his short boxes that sound as good as, or better, than calls costing much more.
Well within your budget and some listed in the classifieds have sound files to go with them.
Can't go wrong with his Long Boxes, Short Boxes, and Scratchers.....I at least 1 of each.
Highly recommended.
Give him a shout.....great guy!
I agree you can't go wrong with Mike at Spring Creek. I asked him if he could put something together for me and he had it to my door before the week was over. Great guy, great call, great price, not sure what else you can ask for.
I bought a call from Mike and had some questions on how to run it...A vid., made just for me, showed up in my email a couple of days later, detailing how to run it...Good man and great calls...
I shouldn't have started this conversation. All these ideas. I started this as an innocent questionnaire on finding another new pot to play with, wound up slipping up and asked about a box call, and now you fellers are harassing me with all this jaz about mikes a great guy. So, I guess that means I need a spring creek box, and somehow need to decide what pot . Y'all are terrible influences!! Terrible! Eer body should just be ashamed. ????????????????

X2!
I like Wendell's Lights Out slate over glass.
John Sinclair cocobolo titanium over glass has been a favorite of mine for a few years. Last year I had him make a custom 3.25'' mesquite titanium over glass from a bull mesquite that died on my place and fell the turkeys used to roost in. I used a variety of his calls to call in successfully 26 toms this spring for myself, family, and other hunters to be killed. No matter if you choose copper, brass, titanium, slate, Johns calls are hard to beat!
In no particular order:
--Mark Mueller oak slate/aluminum
--Halloran Wenge laminate slate
--Schaeffer walnut slate/aluminum
--Longnecker padauk slate
Hard to beat a good slate. Bud and Betty (is he still making them?), Pat Strawser and my Lonnie Sneed Hot Hen is hard to beat. So is Lonnie's price!
Hersh's walnut copper trough is my go to friction call.

I'm not a good caller but that being said my Lonnie Sneed Outlaw Hen brought them to the gun this year. Sounds GREAT to me, I guess to the turkeys too and will not break your bank account . Call Lonnie and get him to run a couple calls over the phone DONT BE IN A HURRY you'll be on the phone for awhile. Havent seen an unsatisfied customer on here yet.
Here's a picture of our slate. Cherry pot and over a glass soundboard and dymondwood striker.

If your interested in a crystal, here is one in a Padauk pot

I have one of these cherry slate pots and it is top shelf,,
You can get so soft and sweet on it or loud enough to call over the wind out west..
Mike Longnecker makes a nice "good ol playin slate"...

Haha get a hold of Chad at American Strutter he will fix you right up.
Another vote for Chad/American Strutter. However, I do not think you will be disappointed with most of the call makers on here. There is a lot of talent here.
I'm surprised the hanks glass pot hasn't been mentioned. I have a couple Halloran pots, as well as several other high end pots and the hanks is top notch in my opinion.

:camohat: Al Hobart of Enticer Turkey Calls, he's been making pots for a long time. I have his Silver Fox, and his super aluminum in a corian pot. Both are lights out on turkeys. Reasonable on price too!
