I have read all of the post about choosing a mouth call. I have read all of the recommendations on call makers and brands. What cut style would you recommend for a medium rasp. I can get clear yelps on my uncut twin reeds and now want to try some calls that will give medium not heavy rasp. What do you suggest? Thanks, Larry
I like a ghost cut to.add a little rasp. Pollard 2.5 ghost or woodhaven red ghost
Jeff Fredrick competition 4 reed and hooks executioner 2. Not a big fan of overly raspy calls myself. Some guys love them but I don't think they sound that realistic. Most hens I have heard are not super raspy. There are exceptions of course.

Happy runs a lot of diaphragms and I'll agree with what he's saying only because I've sat and listened to this guy call for some time now. Myself personally, I think rasp has as much to do with tongue pressure as it does the cut. I've seen guys that can basically force rasp into a call by adjusting tongue and air pressure. A guy like me can't do that. Having said all of that, I've become a big fan of the HS strut ma deuce. It's got enough rasp to it for me to get the job done. I'm also a fan of their split v III. Much prefer the old latex though. This infinity junk wants to dry rot too fast. Gooserbat hillbilly worked well for me as I can manipulate it better than most as far as getting raspy notes or cleaning it up just by moving it forward or backwards in my mouth. Not sure if it's the case with all of them but mine didn't have as much tape as many of the production calls so I could get away with the movement with this particular call. I'm going onto order more calls from them this summer to get acquainted with what I like best. Then I'm getting several of those to put in the call case. Gooserbat makes a fine mouth call.
Denny Gulvas Doubles. Simple two reed, nice clear front that breaks into just a touch of rasp. Very simple to run and requires very, very little air.

Boatpaddle here on OG turned me on to Gulvas' Master's Choice three reed (more like a 2.5 reed). Ran that call exclusively this spring, found my new favorite. Sweet tone, bit of rasp yet clear, super easy to run. Used to run a stack frame call, likely won't go back! Turkeys liked it too.

Perfection Raspy D and the Quaker Boy Old Boss Hen. Simple two reed with small cuts on each side of the top reed. Nice medium rasp and if you really drop your tongue, you can get more rasp. You can also kee kee run easily.
Check out Headcrusher he has a new one that's pretty dang good and takes little pressure to blow. I also tried the double dead from HS Strut and was surprised I labeled it the "poor mans yellow venom"
