Title: Summer trip to WY and ID??
Post by: wisconsinteacher on May 24, 2016, 01:22:56 PM
My wife and I would like to travel to WY and ID this summer.  I want to hit the Big Horns, the Black Hills and Yellow Stone.  From there, I don't know where else to travel.  We like to hike and sight see.  If fishing is available, we would like to try it.  Are there any places that we need to see??

We would like to whitewater raft, where would go for that?

How much development do you want?  I'm sure you could raft in multiple places in either state.   The Giant Cedars in NW MT and Glacier National Park would be cool to see.  I've not been through either yet.  I drove from Kalispell to Libby to Thompson Falls today.   Beautiful country throughout but no huge touristy places.  Plenty of amenities but not many 5 star hotels or restaurants (thank God).  I'm not sure when the huckleberries come in but picking those on a hike might be enjoyable.  If you are hiking in grizzly country (both states have them).....carry bear spray.

Went to the black hills in South Dakota and Wyoming earlier this month. Check out Mount Rushmore, crazy horse, plenty of public lands and streams to fish with tons of trout. Off highway 85 and spearfish canyon rd is where I saw lots of them. Lots of little towns spread through there with Wild West history and museums, check out the badlands and the national forest. I had an amazing time just driving the road through the forest seeing all the wildlife and old cowboy home places. Devils tower is also an awesome sight to see.
