I'm already thinking about next spring and have been dreaming of hunting in the palmetto swamps forever, does anybody have any experiences/suggestions on who/where to go? I say who because I'm assuming that public land is very limited. If I go with an outfitter I'd like to go somewhere that would let a seasoned turkey hunter stretch his legs out and not try to hold my hand like a beginner. Thanks in advance
Not really sure why you would say public hunting is limited. The state is covered in public land. Good luck, I only hunt in the upstate.
I used to live in Charleston and hunted in Francis Marion NF quite a bit. Lots of birds but got pounded. It is very common in SC for the deer rights and turkey rights to be separate on a lease, so I think lots of guys that normally deer hunt private land end up on public for turkeys.

Really wish that were the case in West Tennessee. I have no interest in a deer lease, and I've tried for years to get a "turkey only" deal. Seems everything is all or nothing. Twenty years ago there were a bunch of deer leases that begged me to "Shoot these damn turkeys. They are scaring the deer." Now they all have at least a few members who have taken up turkey hunting.
Try Blackwater Hunting Services. Great food, lodge and guides.
Read my post on burning and turkey decline. Our numbers are way down on public land especially.
Mid to upstate public is your best starting point, lowcountry public has declined

You must be from the low country lol...lowcountry may have declined but it still beats the upstate IMO.
There are Turkey mosquitos in the Low country, there are Turkey buzzards in the Low Country, there are lots of retired folks from various states with Turkey necks in the Low Country however there are no Eastern Wild Turkeys in the Low Country.
Now if the op were to pm me and say arrange a swap out for a Virginia hunt for say a glance at a big swamp Low country bird I might be able to locate and tie one down.. Just a thought.
