Title: This New Jersey Gobbler just won't show himself!
Post by: quavers59 on May 13, 2016, 11:07:35 AM
2nd morning that I have dueled with him. Heard him fly down. Just clucks from a wingbone, I made. Same deal as yesterday. I finally heard a real hen cutting and running to the gobbler. Going to give him a 3rd try tomorrow.

If your next attempt seems to be going like the other two, try a gobble call accompanied by a jake-type decoy set up directly above and behind a hen on the ground about 20-25 yards from you and visible from the direction he will be coming. Often another gobbler will not tolerate a strange tom in his territory, especially if he is attempting to breed a hen. If he responds to your gobbles, exchange gobbles 4-5 times and then go silent or sooner if he is coming your way. Let us know how it goes.
