Title: How Ofter to Deep Clean?
Post by: BDeal on May 10, 2016, 10:32:39 AM
Just curious as to how often you deep clean the barrel? I'm shooting fed heavyweight#7 2 3/4 20 gauge in my sons 870 youth and I dry patch between each shot but the pattern seems to be falling apart a bit as I checked it this week.

Thanks

I "deep clean" a bore and then, for the most part, only use a dry bronze/brass brush between shots, if the patterns start to degrade. That can really vary from gun to gun however. Some of my guns just keep right on patterning, shot after shot and others want to be brushed after every shot.

You may find that the Flitecontrol Wad leaves a good bit of plastic in the choke tube. That's not uncommon. You may be able to regain the patterns just by cleaning the choke with a good brush to remove the plastic build-up from it.

Thanks,
Clark

I never deep clean and I never had any problems.  Sometimes its best to leave well enough alone or If it ain't broke don't fix it.
