Title: What's the chances.....
Post by: Jim K on May 09, 2016, 06:33:49 PM
This morning I set up on a bird that was gobbling good on the roost. I had my decoy set on a log landing and I was well hidden over the edge of the landing back in the brush.
This bird got quiet on the ground and I had no idea where he was. All of a sudden I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. Like a rookie I moved my head slightly and he spotted it at 15 yes. Putt putt and back h went the way he came. I was not happy with myself!!
After awhile I moved on out the logging road maybe 400 or 500 yes. I set up where I killed a bird last year. I could hear a bird in the distance gobbling. I was calling and just waiting and letting things happen. Then I heard a gobble that I felt was behind me on the logging road I was on. I just had a feeling he was coming. I got ready and didn't move anything but my eyes for maybe a half hour. Sure enough he stepped out and half strutted to my decoy. I'm sure this was the same bird I spooked an hour before. 15 lbs, 10" beard and only one 7/8" spur.
Anybody else every kill a bird after spooking it earlier?

Yes, I killed a bird that I shot at and missed an hour earlier just by re-positioning.  When they're on, they're on.   :icon_thumright:

I have not.   Way to go.  Mostly because I got frustrated and moved on. I have gotten more patient as I have aged though, and it may still yet happen.

Done it once. Called a bird back and killed him about an hour after I shot at him twice!
